Climate Data Scientist
Join Mitiga as Climate Data Scientist: translate climate data into actionable risk insights, build atmospheric hazard models for energy, and collaborate across teams.
About Us
Climate change is creating unprecedented challenges for businesses, governments, and communities worldwide. At Mitiga Solutions, we help organizations understand, anticipate, and manage climate-related risks using science and technology.
Born from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, we combine climate science, advanced modelling, and AI to turn complex data into actionable insights—supporting decisions from real-time forecasting to long-term climate projections. Our mission is simple: empower organizations to build resilience and adapt.
We seek someone to design and develop the models behind our new Energy product, delivering climate risk information for renewable energy and investment decisions. You can translate physical climate risks linked to atmospheric processes (e.g., temperature extremes) into climate risk settings—accounting for the details of physical processes and the uncertainty in projections. You communicate physical climate-related atmospheric risk to clients, both on its own and alongside other climate perils.
What You’ll Do
Contribute to the technical ownership of Mitiga’s physical climate-related atmospheric hazard models, collaborating with the product and science teams to define the development roadmap for our physical climate risk products.
Lead work to further validate our in-house atmospheric hazard models.
Lead the exploration and evaluation of 3rd party datasets that could complement our current offering, including possible integration into our current technology.
Work with our business and risk teams on appropriate ways to incorporate physical climate-related atmospheric risk into our ratings and impact calculations.
Be the ‘go-to’ expert for questions about physical climate-related atmospheric hazardsboth within the company and with our customers.
What We're Looking For
Minimum 4 years of experience in atmospheric hazard modelling, either Academic or Industry: At least 2 years of industry experience applying climate risk models and risk assessment methodologies.
Technical Expertise: Possess a deep understanding of multi-scale atmospheric hazard modelling. Experience of hands-on atmospheric hazard modelling, including statistical modelling of extremes (e.g. extreme value theory)
Climate Change Impact: Demonstrate an understanding of how climate change factors can influence physical related risks and atmospheric hazard dynamics and extremes.
Proven Delivery: Experience of successfully delivering atmospheric hazard risk analyses to clients, ensuring clear insights.
Hands-on Approach: Actively participate in the modelling process, contributing alongside our close-knit team. Skills in Python (or similar) and machine learning are highly desired.
Data-Driven Approach: Possess a strong analytical mind and utilize data effectively to inform decision-making.
Effective Communication: Have excellent stakeholder communication skills, enabling you to translate complex technical information into clear and concise messaging for diverse audiences.
Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrate the ability to navigate ambiguous project requirements and develop clear solutions that drive the project forward.
We are open to a range of backgrounds. What matters most is drive, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in climate or infrastructure.

About Mitiga Solutions
Diversity & inclusion
A recent study shows that one in every 10 tech workers in Spain are women. Only 8% of all contracts in 2019 with people with disabilities were in technology and science. Meanwhile, 30% of LGTBIQ people in Spain don't come out in the workplace for fear of discrimination.
This is neither the world we want to live in nor the workplace we’re building.
Mitiga Solutions is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. In fact, we strongly encourage applicants from minority groups to apply.
We believe diversity isn’t a checkbox but a strategic strength. We actively seek out different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences because they make us better.
Inclusion means everyone has a seat at the table and a voice that’s heard. It’s not just policy, it’s how we build, hire, and lead.
