Machine Learning Engineer
Join Mitiga as a Machine Learning Engineer: design, productionize, and scale ML for climate insights, collaborate with scientists, and empower resilience for communities.
About Us
Climate change is creating unprecedented challenges worldwide. Mitiga Solutions helps organizations understand, anticipate, and manage climate-related risks with advanced science and technology.
Born from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, we combine climate science, advanced modelling, and AI to turn complex data into actionable insights—from real-time forecasting to long-term projections. Our mission is to empower organizations to build resilience and adapt.
We’re seeking a mid-level to senior Machine Learning Engineer to design, build, and evolve ML systems from research to production. You’ll develop and improve models, define technical approaches, and shape how we train and deploy deep learning at scale. This hands-on role includes real input on architecture, tooling, and best practices. You’ll work with data scientists and climate experts, focusing on production-ready ML pipelines that are reliable, reproducible, and maintainable.
What You’ll Do
Design, optimize, and maintain deep learning pipelines for training and inference
Productionize research models into reliable services and batch workflows
Migrate and run workloads on cloud infrastructure (AWS / Azure, GPUs, containers)
Build reproducible ML workflows (data versioning, experiments, model tracking)
Work with large datasets (including geospatial and climate data) and define efficient data formats
Contribute to engineering best practices: code quality, testing, CI/CD, documentation.
Collaborate with data scientists, climate experts, and platform engineers
Design new modeling approaches and pipelines, not just adapt existing ones
Improve data preprocessing, feature generation, and dataset management for deep learning use cases.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in machine learning / deep learning or similar roles
Strong Python skills and experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
Solid software engineering fundamentals (Git, modular design, testing, code reviews)
Experience deploying ML workloads on cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure)
Experience working with large-scale datasets and data pipelines
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, research-meets-production environment
Strong problem-solving skills and ownership mindset
We are open to a range of backgrounds. What matters most is drive, intellectual curiosity, and a genuine interest in climate or infrastructure.
⭐️ Strong Plus
Previous experience with remote sensing, satellite data, or geospatial datasets
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or workflow orchestration tools
Familiarity with scientific or environmental datasets
Background in climate, earth sciences, or environmental modeling

About Mitiga Solutions
Diversity & inclusion
A recent study shows that one in every 10 tech workers in Spain are women. Only 8% of all contracts in 2019 with people with disabilities were in technology and science. Meanwhile, 30% of LGTBIQ people in Spain don't come out in the workplace for fear of discrimination.
This is neither the world we want to live in nor the workplace we’re building.
Mitiga Solutions is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status. In fact, we strongly encourage applicants from minority groups to apply.
We believe diversity isn’t a checkbox but a strategic strength. We actively seek out different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences because they make us better.
Inclusion means everyone has a seat at the table and a voice that’s heard. It’s not just policy, it’s how we build, hire, and lead.
